#12 - Le voyage

Vendredi 29 Novembre 2013.
6h00 : On se réveille, on se prépare, on finit la préparation des valises.

7h10 : Mon père et ma belle-mère arrivent pour nous accompagner en voiture à la gare (merci à eux), car nous sommes passablement bien chargés : 2 grosses valises, 1 petite valise, 2 sac à dos avec nos PCs portables et surtout les 2 chats !

8h36 : Départ presque pas larmoyant du train (merci à Anthony et Gus d'être venu !) direction l'aéroport Charles de Gaulle.

9h40 : Arrivée à l'aéroport où on a pu tester les chariots spéciaux "t'as-pris-trop-d'affaires-t'as-plus-de-mains". Résultat : l'aéroport n'est pas fait pour ça :D Même si les chariots sont dispo aux portes du train (dispo à Paris = abandonné), il y a un seul ascenseur sur le quai. En haut, on découvre qu'il faut changer de terminal et donc prendre la navette style métro lillois qui se conduit tout seul mais version brutale avec des à coups, pensez-donc à bien coincer vos valises ! Sauf que pour prendre la navette, il faut passer par des endroits interdits aux chariots spéciaux \o/ Après la navette, on retrouve un autre chariot (rangé celui-ci \o/), on subit la grève pendant 30 min (des gens qui crient et parlent dans un mégaphone "on est motivé" "on va tout péter" ... un régal pour les chats, merci !) Quand le personnel d'Icelandair arrive, Tyn leur demande comment faire pour les chats, il faut s'enregistrer normalement (déposer les valises, prendre les cartes d'embarquement), aller payer à un comptoir spécial (100€ par chat) puis déposer les chats au comptoir "bagages spéciaux". La personne d'Icelandair nous voyant à la fin de la file de 4 km est gentiment venue nous chercher pour nous faire passer par le comptoir vip. Avant de déposer les chats au comptoir spécial, on leur a donné des petits calmants (merci à Marie pour le matériel ça a super bien marché). Recette : écraser les cachets, mettre la poudre dans une pipette, mettre un peu d'eau et mélanger, et hop dans la gueule du chat. Matériel : cachet, fourchette + gamelle pour écraser, pipette, cuillère pour mettre la poudre dans la pipette, eau.
Puis on les a regardé partir avec la personne qui s'occupe des bagages spéciaux ... séquence émotions vous vous en doutez !

13h20 : Décollage de l'avion vers Reykjavik. On en a profité pour regarder "L'incroyable Burt Wonderstone", c'était marrant, puis Tyn a dormi pendant que je jouais à la 3DS \o/

17h20 (heure de Reykjavik, donc 18h20 en France) : Décollage de l'avion vers Seattle. On a regardé "Oblivion" puis on a regretté ... beaucoup, du coup Tyn a préféré dormir que de subir mes choix douteux de films, j'ai donc regardé "Run fatboy Run" ("Cours toujours Dennis" en Français) c'était drôle puis j'ai regardé "Gatsby le magnifique" et j'ai regretté.

16h30 (heure de Seattle, donc 1h30 en France) : Arrivée à Seattle, récupération des bagages puis des chats. On m'avait dit de ne pas avoir peur si ils étaient encore tout mou ... je n'ai pas eu le temps de m'inquiéter, les 2 sont arrivés assis dans leurs caisses et très content de nous voir ! On est donc parti avec notre chauffeur (merci ArenaNet!) vers notre appartement \o/ A noter : Icelandair ne fournit aucun repas gratuit à bord, donc il faut prévoir la carte à portée de main, ou prendre à manger avant ;-)

17h30 : Découverte de l'appartement ... 2 chambres, 2 salles de bain, une buanderie, des placards gigantesques (les photos sont disponibles ici).

18h00 : Direction l'épicerie la plus proche pour faire des courses pour survivre et pour les chats ;-) Achat du galon de boisson et de la litière prête à poser : suffit d'enlever le papier et hop le bac est prêt, très pratique pour dépanner et éviter de devoir porter 10 kg de litière pour rentrer !

19h30 : Installation de l'espace chats dans la plus petite salle de bain, Choco est bel et bien réveillé, Bash a encore du mal à marcher droit et à garder les yeux ouverts mais ils mangent donc tout va bien !

21h30 : Repas : pizza hawaïenne fraîche cuite dans notre four qui est presque 2 fois plus grand que notre ancien four

23h30 : Dodo !! Et fin de cette journée de 31 heures \o/ Même en étant crevés, à 3h on était réveillé et limite prêt à se lever ... mais autant se caler tout de suite sinon y'en a qui vont morfler lundi au travail ;-)

#12 - The trip

November, Friday the 29th 2013.
6:00 : We wake up, we finish our luggages.

7:10 : My father and my stepmother arrive to drive us to the train station (thanks them !), beacause we have a few baggages: 2 big luggages, 1 small luggage, 2 backpacks with our computers and above all the 2 cats !

8:36 : Our train leaves and we nearly don't cry (thanks Anthony and Gus for coming to see us !) Charles de Gaulle airport : here we go !

9:40 : Arrival at the airport where we could test the special carts "you-can't-carry-all-of-your-luggage". Results : the airport is not design for these :D Event if the carts are available nearly train doors (available = abandoned), there is just one elevator on the dock. On the first floor, we discover than we have to go a different teminal and for that we have to take the automatic shuttle which is really brutal, trap your luggage to avoid a fall! And we learn that the path to the shuttle is forbidden to the special carts \o/ After the shuttle, we find another special cart (put in order this one \o/), we suffer the strike (french speciality I think) during almost 30 min (people yelling and speaking in a megaphone "we are motivated" "we all burning down" ... delightful with our cats, thanks !)  When Icelandair's staff arrive, Tyn ask them how to do with cats : we have to register (desposit the luggages, take our boarding pass), go to a special counter to pay (100€ per cat) and leave thecats to the "special luggages" counter. The icelandair staff comme to take us to a vip counter, because we wera at the end of the queue. Before leaving the cats, we gave them some sedative (thank you Marie for the material, it worked well) Recipe: smash the sedatives, put the powder in a pipette, add some water and squeeze, and in the cat's mouth. Material: sedative, fork + cat bowl to smash, pipette, spoon to pur the powder int the pipette, water.
After that, we watch them leaving with the staff ... really hard moment, as you can imagine!

13:20 : Take off of the plane to Reykjavik. We watched "The incredicble Burt Wonderstone", it was fun, then Tyn fell asleep while I played to the 3DS \o/

17:20 (Reykjavik time, so 18:20 in France): Take off to Seattle. We watched "Oblivion" and we regreted it ... very much, so Tyn choose to sleep to not suffer again from my movie choice, so I watched "Run fatboy Run" it was fun, then I watched "The great Gatsby" and I regreted it.

16:30 (Seattle time, so 1:30 in france): Landing in Seattle, luggages and cats recovery. I was told to not be frightened if the cats were still asleep... I haven't had the time to worry, both of them arrived, seating in their carrier and very happy to see us! So we left with our driver (thank you ArenaNet!) to our apartment \o/ Warning: Icelandair does not give free meal aboard, so keep your credit card near you or get food before ;-)

17:30 : Discovery of our apartment ... 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a laundry room and some huge closets (pics are available here).

18:00 : We go to the store to buy some food and for the cats ;-) We bought the classic bottle (3L) and some ready-to-use litter : you havo to take off the paper and the litter box is ready, really usefull to avoid to carry the big loud package at home!

19:30 : Setup of the cat space in the smallest bathroom, Choco is really awake, Bash is still a little bit sleepy but they eat so everything is ok!

21:30 : Meal : hawaiian pizza cooked in the oven which is almost twice the size of our french oven.

23:30 : Sleeping time and the end of this really long day of 31 hours \o/ Even if we were tired, at 3:00 we woke up ... but we slept to stop the jet lag effect, because someone has to go to work on Monday ;-)

#11 - The relocation

We choose to move with just the essentials, so we sold all our stuff (apartment, couchs, TV, tables, car) and we took all we need (clothes, books, computers, cat and cats' toys). One part goes to Seattle by a container on a boat (we signed with moving home compagny so we let you know if it was a good or a bad idea), the other part comes with us, yes the 2 cats too: Choco and Bash ;-)

The apartment is almost empty (just one bed left !), it's almost cleaned. Everything is going to be good for our last day as French residents ;-)

Tomorrow, we'll wake up early, the train to Paris leaves at 8:36 and the flight lands at 13:20 (we need to be 3 hours before the landing for the cats) and we arrive in Seattle near 16:30, local time.

I have some cleaning to do ;-)

#11 - Le déménagement.

On a choisit de faire notre déménagement avec le moins d'affaires possibles, du coup on a tout vendu (appart, canapés, télé, tables, voiture merci le bon coin) et on a pris tout ce qui nous tenait à cœur (habits, bouquins, PC, PC portables, chats, jouets des chats). Une partie des affaires fait le trajet via conteneur et bateau (on a signé chez moving home compagny on vous dira si c'était une bonne ou une mauvaise idée), l'autre partie vient avec nous dans l'avion, oui dont les 2 super chats : Choco et Bash ;-)

L'appartement est presque vide (oui il nous reste un lit allez quoi, vous avez une chance unique de nous faire dormir par terre !), presque tout propre. Tout s'annonce bien pour cette dernière journée en tant que résident en France ;-)

Demain, on sera levé très tôt, le train pour Paris part à 8h36 puis l'avion décolle à  13h20 (il faut y être au moins 3h à l'avance avec des chats :D) et nous arrivons à Seattle vers 16h30; heure locale.

Allez le ménage m'attend ;-)

#10 - It's coming closer!

We have both the date for our final work day before moving: the 22nd of November.
Then, we'll go to Switzerland to see Tyn's family.
And on the 29th of November, we'll leave France with Choco and Bash. \o/

I would also like to take this opportunity to show you this excellent newspaper article done by an awesome journalist! (Sorry it's only in French, but the resume is that Tyn rocks!)

 

I am really proud of my King (I promise that one day we will take a picture like the Lion King if we have a child, or if Choco or Bash accept to do it ;-))

In France, our apartment is sold and is becoming more and more empty. Our housing, for the first three months in Bellevue has been found:  Metro 112, 317 112th Avenue NE, Bellevue, WA 98004.
It's really near the city center of Bellevue (I can easily go shopping) and near a bus station (Tyn can easily go to work). :D

#10 - Ca se rapproche!

Nous avons tous les deux posé nos démissions et notre dernier jour de travail sera le 22 novembre.
Ensuite un petit séjour de quelques jours en Suisse pour voir la famille de Tyn.
Puis, départ le 29 novembre avec Choco et Bash. \o/

Et j'en profite pour vous montrer cet excellent article fait par un super journaliste !

En France, l'appartement est vendu et se vide bien. Notre logement pour les 3 premiers mois à Bellevue a été trouvé : Metro 112, 317 112th Avenue NE, Bellevue, WA 98004.
C'est très proche du centre-ville de Bellevue et près d'une station de bus pour que Tyn puisse aller travailler et pour que je puisse faire du shopping :D

# 9 - Trip to the embassy

To continue the adventure, we had to go to the embassy to finish the papers for our precious visas! Rules are simple: be at the ambassade of United States in Paris at 10 a.m. (and not before, or you'll have to stay outside waiting!), with a lot of papers to fill on the internet before, 1 envelope, identity pictures and a lot of soon-to-be-unused paperwork. ;-)

So, we had the chance to walk in the embassy neighborhood and pass by the Élysée (French presidential office), see the Concorde, the Arche de Triomphe, pay 20 euros for breakfast, all of Paris' charm (yes and with the subway during morning rush hour, delighful!)

No sooner said than done, we have received the visa the next day!
